The Oromo Community Organization (OCO) of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area organized an educational forum on human rights. The OCO human rights forum featured a guest speaker from Amnesty International U.S.A. Ms. Ilona Kelly is Amnesty International USA’s Individuals at Risk Campaigner for Africa and the Middle East. Ms. Kelly spoke on the topic: “The role of Amnesty International (AI) and It’s Experiences in protecting human rights violations in Ethiopia in general and in Oromia Particular.”
The second presenter was Mr. Habtamu Dugo, Senior Fellow for Human Rights at the Independence Institute USA and a graduate student at George Mason University. Dugo spoke on the highest risks of instability, politicide and genocide in Oromia and Ethiopia.
The Oromo are moving in the direction of bringing the issue of human rights and democracy front and center for the Oromo and all the peoples of Ethiopia and the Horn. The video is 59 minutes long.
