Oromia-Ethiopia: Dr. Getachew Begashaw, Former Top EPRP Leader, Testifies Overwhelming Majority of Oromos Support the OLF

By Gadaa.com News Analyst

As the euphoria, over a wishfully anticipated division inside the Oromo nationalist political camp, is reaching fever-pitch on Ginbot7 (G7)-controlled media outlets, many Oromo nationalists are stressing that the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) struggles for the right to self-determination of the Oromo nation and freedom of Oromiyaa (the homeland of the Oromo people), and the G7 induced euphoria is actually presenting the Oromo an opportunity to unite and finish the final chapter of the Oromo struggle.

According to some political commentators, the century-old Abyssinian rulers’ divide-and-rule tactic is being deployed by G7 to create rifts among Oromo political leaders as the ongoing euphoria and media campaign show. These commentators also add that the OLF has a wide popular support among all sectors of the Oromo society – both in the homeland as well as in exile – that no dirty tricks will stop Oromo’s struggle from achieving victory.

It’s to be noted that some observers have already testified that there’s a wide popular support for the OLF-led Oromo people’s struggle for the right to self-determination and freedom of Oromiyaa.

As recently as 2009, the International Crisis Group (ICG) in its report noted:

“Many ordinary Oromos retain an almost messianic belief in the OLF as the major nationalist organisation.” (ICG, September 2009)

And, at a July 2011 meeting in Virginia, USA, Dr. Getachew Begashaw, a former top EPRP leader, testified that “it is almost impossible to find an Oromo who does not support the OLF.” The acceptance of the wide popular support, which the OLF-led Oromo’s struggle for the right to self-determination enjoys among the Oromo, is a long overdue exercise. (Watch the Video Below)

Meanwhile, as the G7 media-orchestrated euphoria continues, the Oromo nationalist youth has taken the forefront in standing for Oromummaa and Oromiyaa. The Oromo nationalist youth-led 3-day online campaign for Oromummaa and Oromiyaa to raise awareness about human rights violations and land grabbing has just been successfully wrapped up, and a momentum of resistance is building up and is anticipated to reach the towns and villages of Oromiyaa soon.

THE ONLY POLITICAL ORGANIZATION THAT HAS DEFINE PLAN FOR HIS OWN POEPLE ‘S IS “OLF”.HOWEVER; OLF HAS SO MANY ENEMIES TO STAND INFONT OF IT. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TO SAY FOR A TIME BEING, BE STRONG AND GO FORWARD, WITH YOU OROMIA WILL BE FREE. AND GOD IS ALSO WITH THE ONE WHO HAS CLEAR PLAN FOR HIS NATION.

    Slow down, Obsaa,

We have more than just two OLFs!
Every one knows there is no difference between your Daud and Kamal when it comes to dealing with Habasha. That’s why we have OLF number 3 led by Dhugaassaa Bakakkoo and the ULFO group with zero tolerance on issues of oromo independence.

” The Oromo people’s deepest love is not for the leaders or members of the day; Although they love and hold them in high regard too. They know that leaders and members come and go. Their love is for something constant, something persisting in the OLF regardless of who leads the organization or holds membership in it. That, my friends, is the ideals the organization represents; the fears, hopes and aspirations it is connected to. The ideals, the fears and hopes, and the aspirations it represents and stands for are the same as those that the Oromo people hold very dear.” For more read ..

…and find out that the Enemies of oromo sought to kill OLF by changing its principles through their Trojan horses.

…And that they will NEVER succeed as long as there are oromos left on the plant who can read their history and want to free their land, no matter what cost or how long it will take! Oromo and their enemies understand that even “God” can not stop the human desire for freedom. Qabsoon itti fufa!

We do have only two OLF. Gelchu’s group is no more called OLF, rather ELF. Peoples may defect or retire during this long & challenging struggle, but we never ever surrender our goal for bilisummaa.
    May God bless Oromo!

The mov’t had taken by J.K is speed up the other OLF group as they form one front instead looking each other as enemies.I don’t want to say any thing as this time.Still our political leaders don’t know how to play political game if they countinou like this they split again split ,nothing can do at the end. Now we have four OLF but we have one oromiya where is the popularity of OLF after 2004 more lost its suppoters ,members and hope of oromo people.OLF A(1973), OLF B(2004) OLFC (2008) OLF D(2012) …These all GROUP are enemies to one another instead form nunity fight the common enemies. I am so sad for the detoration of mass political party compromising and understanding each other the wise political game to win our common enemies.WHY our political leaders don’ t learn from history during WWI and WWII.Especial during WWII USA AND USSR fron to end the power of HITILER but they didn’t give uo their political ideology. How long we can go in a such foolish political condition, in back home i.e oromiya how many oromo killed, displaced, and missed.Where is gadaa system? we are declared as the vital tool for democracy when we recpect its principle. Every thing is lost its way. Rabbin wolinuhabesisu

Is this not an irony then: an Organization that has so much love and support from its people has no result to show off?. Is this not the question that the Oromo people need and deserve an answer for? What more can these people do to make this organization productive? Who takes responsibility for all the failure or setback that keeps visiting and visiting this organization every so often, pretty much like the Ethiopian Famine. It (the crisis that is visiting up on this organization) has been even more frequent than the recurrent famine that visits up on the Country. Is it not time (high time) for this organization to have a hard look at itself?

On the other hand, if you know from your heart that the Oromo people is with you ( which I have no doubt whatsoever), you don’t need any validation from outsiders. This shows that you lack self-confidence. Your destiny is not determined by the approval or disapproval of outsiders, but by what you do or not do.

You don’t even need to refer to political commentators to state and establish the century-old Abyssinian rulers divide and rule cunning fox minority tyrants imposing its unilateral dictatorship over the majority Gada Democrats and other egalitarian value owning peoples. This is crystal clear and self evident facts for all who are witnessing and have been witnessing both in the past and in real time.

Then, the question is NOT so much about repeat establishing the same phenomena over and over again what has already been established and concluded, but the formulation of effective counter strategies, tactics and implementation of democracy, empowerment, freedom and justice for all by all means possible through unity/alliances within diversity.

Oromo diversities and pluralism need NOT be taken as a sign of weakness but needs to be SEEN in a positive light and consciously converted in to the unbreakable solid strength emanating from century old Gada Democracy similar to the pluralistic political, social, etc. partisan healthy competition and cooperation of the vibrant western pluralistic democratic system of government inherited from the classical Gada Democracy.

Oromos may ally with Amharas and other people but not to cheat other or some Oromos but to empower and bring about equality, justice and freedom both for ALL oromos and other Ethiopians since what we are looking for is a new sustainable and stable government and good governance that is bound to establish peace, security, sustainable development for al

    It ie time
There must be no doubt for the majority Oromos that they support free Oromia. The question is how to get there not whether or not there is a need to this noble cause.
The Abssinians are paying the price for the guilty the’ve been commiting for years, when they denayed oromos rights, when they never dreamt that one day they may lose power, when they never have such things like human rights at the back of their head for a minute.
Is there any absyyinian political organization who even say a single word against this superesive regime when hundreds of oromo students dissmised from universities? when thousand oromos and Ogadenians, Gambellans put in prision and left for years without charge or trial? when oromo land set on fire and laid bare? Yes, they were airing their opposing voice for Tedy Afro, for Iskindir Naga and many others which they think are true Ethiopians.
So where do they expect unity will come from?

“Oromoon bittaa Mallasaa booda kan biraa hin bitamu, kun isa dhumaati.” are you sure? movements must really have the necessary material and human capacities built to an appreciable level to balance competing powers and placed strategically to say that they will now take their freedom by their own actions. Otherwise only saying may not have practical values.

Kana booddee Oroomoon utuu biyya qabuu maqaa biyya ollaatiin jechuun Iti’ooppiyaan hin waamamu.” If it is about names and namings, to me it does not matter as to with what name your caw is being called but what kind of freedom it has for providing you with good quantity and quality of milk and butter freely.

Obb. Abbaa Biiftuu, Ilike your idea i.e let’s stop attaking each other and focus on our common enemy wayyanee. There is no statics in politics. Politics is changing from one time to another. Let’s move from one chapter to another.Augst 2008, was the year when every oromo from corna to corna mobilized to support the change and contribute $200,000 to strength the OLF FINICIALLY to facilitat the armed struggle and gave hope for all oromo from inside and outside. But after 4years as American president election in the OLF POLITICAL LEADRES compting for political power internal for four years now at the beginning of 2012 the new ideology spark out again from OLF faction. I personal, ask evry oromo where is your stand? you support kamal, ibsa, dhukasaa,Mume, Hasen hussen ..Imagen how we lost power instead unity division, instead fight common enemy fight one another. Is this the way we can address our common goal? Think about it we are human beings, not cattle or insects. Let’s wark for peace and reconciliation together among those who have basic common goal. QABSAYAAN NI KUFA QABSOON ITTI FUFA. WE NEVER GIVE UP

Guys please stop whining! How long do you want to stay in a state of self-pity and victimhood? You are supposed to be the majority, who are suppose to coordinate the struggle for justice and democracy with other tribes and lead it by showing achievable visions. But what I always read is a never ending whining and complaining and a huge dose of lack of self confidence. For God’s sake any majority will only ask for real democracy and cooperates with others on these grounds. After real democracy is established you will have the helm of power if you are really the majority and can do what ever you want with it. Man, stop whining and start leading all Ethiopians in the road to democracy. This is the only way you will be in power if you are the majority. How insecure are you guys to always ask others for self-determination instead of grabbing power though democratic means and do whatever you want with it. NO habesha with his right mind will give you your self-determination. YOU YOURSELF will take it THROUGH democratic means. How hard is this to understand? So, stop whining and start taking the leading roll.

OLF was a true political front for the last 40 years. It had both independence and democracy elements working together when in agreement, and correcting each other when in conflict. How did the independence and democracy elements come to exist in OLF?

The independence clique was the revolutionary youth organization of the time; articulate in political ideology and swift in political decisions, it needed the well-known democracy base of the Oromo (breakaways of the Macha Tulama) to establish itself as a viable organization. The OLF has thus been a Front in its true sense, but not completely a liberation organization.

The dilemma between forming the Front (Oromo unity) and acting like a Liberation organization has hampered its progress. TPLF and EPLF never had this issue to the extent that OLF has had it. EPLF and TPLF eliminated their own rivals within their organizations from early on.

because of that, TPLF and EPLF were agile in political decisions, but OLF has had been too slow, but OLF has been more democratic than EPLF and TPLF.

The issue about agility seems to be over. The democracy and independence camps within OLF have now separated for good making the Daawud OLF irrelevant. Anyone wanting to fight for democracy, join Kemal OLF. Anyone wanting to fight for independence, join Dhugaasaa OLF. No need to dance back and forth between democracy and independence to create confusion.
