“Ethiopia Is Not Oromia; Oromia Is Not Ethiopia” – Oromo Community @ Africa Day 2012 in Ireland

Africa Day event in Ireland has made it clear for many that Ethiopia is not Oromia, and Oromia is not Ethiopia.

The Africa Day was celebrated colourfully on 26 and 27 of May 2012 in Dublin, Ireland. Many African embassies and communities across the country came together in open space to show their culture, identity and the best of their communities, their countries and their continent at large. The Association of Oromo Community in Ireland was, not only one of these communities on the event, but also the shining star of Africa and its people. Starting from the first day of the event, the community’s members and leaders were there at the event and were very busy explaining, demonstrating the Oromo heritage, as well as participating in different competitions at the event.

The Oromo community’s pavilion was just beside that of the Ethiopian Embassy. The Oromo community displayed beautiful Oromo artifacts, including cultural costumes. Most of the Oromo gents and ladies, including leaders, were in their attractive costumes. The visitors had to wait in turns to see our artifacts, to try them and to take pictures wearing the Oromo customs, jeweleries, and ornaments. The Oromo community’s pavilion was full of Oromo culture. We had a live Oromo coffee ceremony during the event, where many enjoyed the fresh aroma and taste of Oromo coffee. We had the pictorial display of the world famous runners from Oromia, such as Abebe Bikila (Ababa Biqilaa), Derartu Tullu (Daraartuu Tulluu) and Kenenisa Bekele (Qananiisaa Baqqalaa), whom many recognized, but did not know that they are children of the Oromo nation.

The members of the Oromo community used this big opportunity to inform every visitor that the Oromo people had been subjugated people under the tyranny of successive Abyssinian regimes for more than a century. Since most of them, even our African brothers and sisters do not know that we, Oromos, have been under colonial rule, we explained that why Ethiopia is said to be a country that has never been colonised. We used the analogy of why Britain has never been colonised because it had been a coloniser. By doing this, we, the Community members, sent many to read more about the Oromo. Many visitors promised to continue to be the friends of the Oromo and left their contacts to be in touch with our community.

Our community and our people became the focus of discussions even after our beautifully dressed lady Aaddee Ayyaantuu Bantii won the award of “The Best Dressed Woman” competition on Africa Day 2012. To everyone’s surprise, Aaddee Ayyaantuu, Aaddee Seenaa and Aaddee Makkiyaa – all three from the Oromo community – were the top three “Best Dressed” ladies. All of them were in our well-decorated and beautiful Oromo dresses. Then came questions – like who are Oromos? Where are they from, etc?

We, the Oromo community members, used the opportunity to inform Kenyan, Sudanese, Ugandan, Somali, South African, etc. communities, nationals and diplomats to support and understand Oromo refugees in their countries. We explained that Oromos left, and will leave their country, to run away from colonial persecutions, and they never migrate for economic reasons as Oromia is naturally a rich country.

While this trend continued into the second day of the event – keeping the Oromo members overwhelming busy, no one had visited the pavilion of Wayane, which was just metres away from Oromo’s pavilion. To our surprise, their pavilion was mostly without supervision, and only occasionally, an Irish lady came into and went out of it, no other members of the Wayane Embassy in Ireland came except at the beginning and end of the show.

The first day we observed that there was one Oromo item in their show, but the next day there was no items that showed Oromo in there exhibition. We exhibited that we are not Ethiopian, and the Ethiopian Embassy exhibited that Oromo is not Ethiopia, too. Actually, their pavilion had nothing to do with other peoples in Ethiopia at all. There were some pictures from the northern part of the empire, and a picture of the Ethiopian Airlines. The Irish, who occasionally went in and out of the pavilion, was in Tigrean costume. We informed the Irish lady, who claimed that she was the former Irish Ambassador to Ethiopia, that Oromo is a great nation suffering by the oppression of the Ethiopian government and the Irish government has been deaf-ear to their cause for many years. She sympathized with us saying that, if real democracy exists in Ethiopia, things would have been better. The lady informed us though that the Ethiopian Embassy was busy in politics of Somalia – where she said “the Ethiopian diplomats are in meeting with Somali community.”

The Africa Day was a great success for the Oromo Community in Ireland, where the Community clearly and precisely provided information for many African and European nationals and diplomats that Oromo is a great peace-loving nation, which is denied of freedom of any sort and being subject to incessant oppression.

The Oromo awareness has just started two weeks before the Africa Day by running Oromo cultural exhibition in Fingal County Council public library in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The exhibition continues until 15 June 2012 in Dublin City Council public library in the ILAC Shopping Centre, which will start on Friday 1st of June 2012. The exhibition so far attracted a large number of visitors.

    Hello Writer,
Which history are you talking about?I am amazed by your explanation.Nowadays people of all Ethiopian Nations and nationalities have realized you all who you are and what you are trying to do.We are on the right track now,Every Nation here is recognized and respected. Our constitution has allowed and guaranteed Us to promote and preserve our legacies ,cultures and modernizing our Languages as well.We are in the time where no reversing point can happen.we are developing our economies. We are educating our kids becoming doctors ,engineers, managers…Our fate is determined only by ourselves.Your policy is separating people who have never been separated before. You better read history.Don’t try to pretend your self as if you are worried about the people putting your self in a conformable life.

Oromia asks from her children this kind of activities wherever they are. I thank the Oromo Community in Ireland from the bottom of my heart for their dignified representation of our nation on this occasion. The Irish people have a struggle that bears similarities with ours. They can easily understand our cause. It is up to us to inform them. We need the moral and material support of individual Irish men and women to begin with; diplomatic support comes later. I urge fellow Oromos in Ireland to join hands with Oromo organizations in the other countries in Europe and organize seminars/conference about the Oromo in Ireland.

Thank you once again. As you said Oromia is not Ethiopia! The Oromo are not Ethiopians.

What amazes me is that how a person who claims his right has been taken away from him is so careless about the rights of others?!
I have one question for you, have you asked for the permission of the famous athletes you ‘ve mentioned for the pictures to be displayed in your booth and clearly stating your objectives and what you want to achieve? I am asking these because non of the athletes have ever stood by such position. The irony is what baffles me.

This is sad, you seem to be leaving in reality of your own, and I belive you are trying to convince yourself than the readers.
    - Yes Oromia is not Ethiopia, unlike ethnic states in Europe – Irish, german etc, African states are made up of divers ethnic groups – thus we do not have a denome called “Ethiopian nationality”, or Ethiopian language unlike for example: Poland, polish identity, polish language etc etc.
    - Oromia is rather a component of the many elements that makes Ethiopia up
By separating yoursel from the reality, you are ignoring the fact that, Oromia being the largest population group, demographics indicate that: 38% of Oromos have generataions of intermix due to their mobility – where do you put them? Are you going to deny them their identyty – After all HaileSelasie himself was 50% Orommo, but does not imply he was best for his ppl.

I really pray ignorant people like yourself never come close to power of any sort. You are a tool of self distruction.
Please stay in Europe, aquire your symbiotic living status, and try to get some rest :) Cheers

The Oromo children are looking or searching for their LOVELY MOTHER OROMIA which was snatched /forced to marriage( Butuu) by Habeshas. Many have fallen every where when trying to free her. In the mountains, in the forests, in Savanahs, in rivers, in valleys of high land and low land. They are still laying there. Their ghosts are haunting all Oromos. They cry day and night for their Dear Mother Oromia. The LOVELY MOTHER is still being beaten and raped by enemies. Let us stand up together and free our Dear Mother before she die at the hands of enemy. Our lives without Mother is like the lives of street dogs. Let us fight with what ever we have, guns, spears, arrows, knives, sticks, slings, slingshots, boomerangs, words, and even by biting. Our enemies are like hynas, they want to attack us from the weak side of us. Let us not be shaked by enemys dust devil or mirage propaganda.

    LONG LIVE LOVELY MOTHER OROMIYAA.

I hope the wise folks of the community will address this and I wish for Oromia to be the beacon of knowledge and progress and not the center of hatred and identity of grudge, there is no value in this at all.

When you talk, now we are moving fast to achieve our objective . You think that we are far because you do not know how much we travelled. What is left is a fraction of our journey. We almost finished Nation building job. We done the hardest job, what is left is the easy one.
If you have culture why you display? you run away from competion. you come back with insult. Not only abroad, but in oromia, daily we are taking-out woyane spy and thier property. No more life in Oromia for Woyanee. If you don`t believe call and ask your settler relative what action is taking place against woyanne. Them Oromo stood up for its right, and struggled agains your, your fictioues history and your prison country. Now it is impossible to bring it back. We are gone, Oromo and Oromian are on the way where we see you as neghiebours, either mr Wallayta ,or Amhara, or who else are you. This is a social revolution, a systematic ground shaking social development. Think of no fooling, or frightening, it will slap you in the face. You rotten words are on you toung, in you mounth, not even on any ones hair or skin. It is stinging out from your head through your mounth. Noone cares about that. We know you always do that, say that, even your ‘professors’ do that. We are proud of our brothersThose you try to tell us about history, we started from that history, we know it it is the fiction of your forfathers, you better search for your right and true history. That history you know is a dog’s feaces in a golden coat. Do not fool yourself, Ethiopia was estblished by force and will be de-established by force, and it already stated cracking down, your cry will never save it.

The thief which entered the home to steal does not respect the owner, than humilating and hurming the owner. The Neftegnas know what they have done on Oromos and others oppressed people in Ethiopia. That is why they are scared and terrfied when they hear the talking oppressed. By the way if what the writer writes or talks does not fit your interest, go and look for Neftegnas Website. The Neftegnas can not stop crying till they all die out and let room free for new Amhara generation. And that time is not far away, it will come soon.

oh…who was confusing oromia for ethiopia? of course it has been about two decades since oromia has been declared as one of the regional states in ethiopia. and before 2 decades ago, oromo people were always there in differently named provinces…yet contributing their share to what we call ethiopia now. so oromia is one of the regional states of ethiopia, and ethiopia is a country. at least this is what we have at this moment. whether it will become a country by its own is something we should wait and see. i personally don’t mind to see countries called oromia, amara, tigrai….etc…because this doesn’t matter to the people, i am sure that eventually all the people will always live together, whether politicians impose borders among them or not, no one can break the unity that exist among people in ethiopia. artificially made border lines cannot break this bond. it is good for each and every people in that country to cultivate its own culture and land and introduce to the outside world. but i don’t like the involvement of politics in this. please lets be people and speak as a people not as politicians, since we are sharing one sky and one earth. the idea of showing oromia’s culture to europe is super. but shouldn’t be taken as a victory or disdain to other brothers… and if it is true, what the ethiopian embassy in ireland did was also a shameful act. shame on the delegates of the ethiopian government for doing such a thing. the escalated negative sentiments from both sides are disappointing. extremism in whatever way is a barrier to our progress and prosperity. this article in gadaa.com itself is not really a helping the situation, instead it is helping the propagation of haterade, i would have loved to read something like advocating the representation of the culture of all the people in ethipia equally, together under the same umbrella…or if not possible separately but in harmony…in other words, the article should have critisized both sides for not participating in the event in harmony…because, whether we like it or not, the vast majority of people back home are living together…attending weddings dancing, crying together in funerals… etc..etc.. all together as brothers and sisters…forget the politicians individuals or groups ….politics is a poison that is spoiling our people for generations, politicizing such a holy activity like introducing cultures of peoples for propagating hatred and disagreement among brothers in that country is a shameful act. in fact this very sentiment will cast a bad image to europians about the people in Ethiopia. because this is backwardness, it cannot be a sign of civilization at all, whether we like it or not, the largest proportion of people in Ethiopia are living together they share a lot of identities that are inseparable. who differentiates an oromo from an amhara in the streets of dublin? guys, people will laugh at us. instead let’s respect one another, lets try to resolve our issues in discussion. lets not abuse one another. all such things do not have a tiny advantage, rather a victory to our common enemies. let’s not be emotional like some of the comment writers under this article.
    one love to all people.
    thanks

It all depends on the definition you people do give to the word ‘Ethiopia’: If you mean Ethiopia = Abyssinia, then truely Oromia is not Ethiopia or Ethiopia is not Oromia; but if you do believe that Ethiopia = Cushland, then Oromia is part and parcel of Ethiopia. To comprehend more, read the following:

“… To make clear about which Ethiopia I am writing here, it is important to look at the different definitions given till now. For the ancient Greeks, the country called Ethiopia was where those with “burnt face” lived, i.e. the land of blacks, which included the whole of Africa; for the Biblical Jews, it is the land of Cush located south of Egypt or somewhere in Iraq or Saudi Arabia; for the international community now, it is the currently existing state in the Horn of Africa; to the people like Prof. Megalomatis, Ethiopia is equivalent to the non-Abyssinian part of the Cushland; for the Abyssinian elites, Ethiopia simply means Abyssinia; for the nostalgic and conservative politicians of the empire, “true Ethiopia” is the same as being Amhara; and, for the currently ruling class of the Tigreans and for their mouthpieces like AigaForum, Ethiopia is the mask for Woyane. Such a Babylonic confusion of the term Ethiopia is also reflected in the Oromo liberation camp. For some Oromo nationalists, Ethiopia is the current modern state in which Oromia is located and need to be liberated; that is why the rhetoric Oromia-Ethiopia is not as such contradictory for it is possible to talk about Oromia in particular, and Ethiopia in general. To the other Oromo nationalists, Ethiopia is the same as Abyssinia, the neighboring country of Oromia, which occupied Oromia by force, so, from which, this Biyyaa-Oromoo (Oromo land) should separate unconditionally; that means for this group, talking about Oromia being within Ethiopia now is thus logically wrong… ” http://gadaa.com/oduu/9343/2011/05/11/the-cushitic-ethiopia-and-the-triangular-struggle-for-freedom/

Who cares which Ethiopia we are talking about?

There is only one definition for Ethiopia today. Today, Ethiopia means Abyssinia (ETHIOPIA=ABYSSINIA). Period. End of discussion.

Mythical and oral history do not have place in politics. Ethiopia is not Oromia. Oromia is not Ethiopia. Oromia belongs to Oromo. Write children books with your mythical and oral history about Cush.

We live in the world that “is,” not in the world that “was.”

The Oromo people must be ready to determine their destiny; the backward and criminal bandits and ethno-fascists have no respect for themselves and others.

    Kassa,
The oromia flag is Black red and white, you can see it in the exhibition vedio. The leaders were well know till Minilik Soldiers came into the door. Ali, Mohamed, Aba jifar, Moreda and Aba gada. Unfortunatly the UN is established in 1940 and we were collonized with no voice at the time to represnt our self.
I hope you can wake up from your deep sleep.

    For my brother from Waleyata.
I am sure you understand why the country called Ethiopia is the tail of the world. You can’t grow by subjugating the mass, in this case the people of Oromo and other Ethiopians by few elite. I went to many OLF and oromo organisation and no one is talikng about Amahara. Currently the Amara is getting the heat eventhough not equally like an oromo. I am sure if the subjugation equalt that of oromo, you will see thousands of amara liberation front. The current neftenay are Wayane. Therefore, just stop diversion of the topic. I dont belive also you are from welayta, you are one of the current oppressor, TPLF

Your question is not clear but, do you know that many Oromos were in the Gondar palace even before that date your wrote here? If it event true we oromos came from madagaskar, we are african but do you know that Abish(Amara and Tigre came from Asia? Whatsoever, that cannot help your interest, we Oromos know all about your lies, your propoganda, your cheating, your lamb skined tiger, your whatever means tried to convince or confuse. I know all in and out and we started our journey to freedom. No any power can stop it because it is the will of God the Almight to be free. I am so happy to read this article and so happy to be read by the oppessive camps as well, well done the writer. I will never forget what Amhara ‘professor I think Asrat Wonde somebody said just because we use the alphabet that siuted our langauge. So, if the ‘professor. of them speak like a layman, who is able to talk/write as a wiseman/woman?.

your approaching is like the approaching of the stupid swan which wanted to out wit the fox by hidding its head under its wings, but later it was out witted by fox. If you are interested to know about Oromo history go and ask your Teoderos, Menelik, Haile and Derg. They know Oromo history better than you, because you are preaching the the same myth story which your grand fathers have told you. The synonymous name of Abyssinia and Ethiopia is confusing you. To diffirenciate them first of all go and study the history then come to talk about the Oromo. The Oromos do not pay attention for such a thrash of yours and your likes.

If she want’s to show Oromia, why didn’t she wear the brown rainbow color Leather with the beads dress that the oromian wear and see if she wins!!! We wonder what other Ethiopian culture you stole and show? We have a pride in our Ethiopian Culture and Ethiopian white dresses.

you have made a great mistake by sirring up the hornets nest. Now it is up to you to run for your life. This is the character of confused fly which swoops onto the dangerous spot. I have seen on you that you are angry and sulky. But anger does not take one any where than leading to disappointment, which in turn leads to frustration and at the end to the suicide. Don’t worry about Oromos and Oromia, they can manage their bussiness. Mind only about ajusting your old way of thinking to the modern world. If you really knonw the history, you wouldn’t talk about the battle with Sudanese Derbush at Galabat. It is the dark side of Habeshas. Do you know how many Habeshas were killed, and how many were taken cuptive and taken to the town of Omdourman and tettled there ? You go to the quarter of Omdourman which is called Wad El- Nubawi and ask for them you will find it out.

Why we borrow some body;s thing, that time is gone, when some of our fore generation were fooled by your, but that is gone sorry. We are proud of Aadde Ayyaantu, our elegant, beautiful girl from Oromia, proud of her poeple. Look how the debteras becoming wild when their true story published officially including Qalu who smashed their lier brain once for all. Ahmara and Tigre came from South of Arabia what is today called Yemen who discriminated by the time by the Arabs a similar to the black africans in Libya of today. Then they moved down wards to the Red sea the region called ethiopia, the historical place of Cush in the Horn. Niethe the Ahmara nor Tigre belongs to Habash, the true habsha are Hamasens only. As their history based only on mythes, tomorrow they may call themselves Romans or Germans, who cares, but one thing is true for sure especially ahmaras never ever land on Oromia, Ogaden, Sidama, gambella, Afar and Tigray for what they did the last 100 years against humanity.
The reality is that as a response to Cush demostrated politically the truth of the Oromo struggle for liberty”Nuu Biyyii Teenya Oromiyaa” is like a bullet in every Oromo hand to defend our mother land until the rest of one Oromo on earth let it be tomorrow or the coming 100 years, no power on earth stop us from our destiny. Imiyee Ethiopia or death did not stop Eritrea from their destiny even when all nations and nationalities where fighting against the 3ml. people let alone today every one struggling for their identity and hence the Ethiopian nationalism falls fast while identity nationalism is rising in a high trend a similar to Croatia, Kosovo A, Bosinia H, Slovenia VS Serbs.
    Addios Ethiopia, Viva la Oromia!!

    Ethiopiawitua,
In your writing, you said Oromo people came from Madagascar, but that is baseless and unfounded. Read Dr. Amsalu Alilu. He said Semetic people came from southern Yemen. If do not believe in his wrting, compare Arabic with Amharic words such as wend (weld), bered ( berid ), bet ( bet ), weded (wadud), ras (ras), mot (mot)…etc. Our Waqayyoo created us where we are today. The Oromo people are as old as the rivers, lakes, mountains, and hills of Oromiyaa. We came from nowhere. Period.

Ethiopiawitua, you are fond of the name Ethiopia. You know what it means. It is a Greek word given to Africa . Its meaning is burned face, primitive, uncivilized, backward, people with no history or culture. why we call ourslves with such a derogatory name? We don’t call ourselves Ethiopians. We, Oromo people, instead, call ourselves OROMO. As my friend said “keep the name Ethiopia in the museum.”

You also said Oromo people are refugees and should go back to Madagascar. Ethiopiawitua, our country streches from Raya Azaboo in north to Moyaale in the south. When you go to the west it stretches from Qellam in Wallaga to Wachaale in the east. I understand your are in desperate situation. An Amharic proverb goes like this: “yeferut yidersal yetelut yiweresal.” Oromo elders say “mixiin of hintuffatu dhagaa baate deemti.” I do not know the eqivalent proverb in Amharic but literary it means ” chuchan rasuan atinekim dingay tishekemalech.” We are like oxygen and everywhere in the Ethiopian Empire except in Gonder. And I am sure if you opt for that we will crush you into dust.

We, as Oromo people, will never rest until we create our separate homeland, Oromiyaa. It is a matter of time. Remember once chickens were eggs. As Stephen Covey once said “every thing is second creation.” Before you do something, first you think in your mind, then practically you do it. Right now, at leat Oromiyaa state has been created. It is right there on a map. Tomorrow, the name Ethiopia will definetely be erased. Your Amharic will be confine to Gonder and eventually die a natural death. Who wants to speak it? Only Amharas. Every ethnic group has its own language, and what is the point of going through such a painful process of learning of Amharic? No body needs it. Ethiopiawitua, you want to force us to be Ethiopians. We are not. Pure and simple. Period. Who are you to define us? That is a serious crime.

As you love Amharic language, we, Oromo people, love Afaan Oromo. It is is, as equally, important to us as oxygen. We want to learn in Afaan Oromo from elementary school all the way to colleges and unversities on our soil not in Amharic. Our brothers and sisters are learning in Afaan Oromo right now. We want it to be the official language of Oromiyaa tomorrow. Think how painful it is if you are forced to learn in Afaan Oromo or other languages. Non Amharic speakers know the pains and the psychological problems associated with it. You just talk non senses. It is just like pushing a stick into somebody’s wound- besew qusil inchet yisedu – aynet.

No More or Less Than Oromiyaa!

    Hi Tazabi,

The Oromo and Semetic peoples are like bees and ants. And they cannot co-exist. We have been forced to live together by previous and existing governments. When a husband or a wife abuses the other, they try to fix the problems between them. If they cannot hammer out their differences, the only option is divorce. The marriage contrat has been ended. These problems haven around for a long long time. In Walloo, it has been over 400 years; in other parts over 100 years.

We cannot live being abused forever as Oromo people. It is high time that we should have our separate homeland, Oromiyaa! This is non- negotiable. Period.

Tazabi, we are no more a carpet! The ideas that we have been marriad each other, and we enjoyed life together cannot save your emiyye Ethioipia. That is false. Very few people intermarried for political purposes. Tazabi, you are trying to keep us in slavery for every. The Empire is like hell for us. If you are in love with it, keep it for you. Don’t impose on us, and try to define Oromo people. After all, it is a Greek word with a meaning of burned face, primitive, backward, uncivilized, people with no history or culture; it is a derogatory name.

Tazabi, my friend once said the name ” Ethiopia belongs to a museum.” It is true, and it should be kept in museum.

This quote is from the Wikipedia as the whole world knows the history of oromo and Ethiopia –
The Wikipidia defintion for Oromo is ” The Oromo (Oromo, “The Powerful” Ge’ez Oromo) are an ethnic group found in Ethiopia, northern Kenya, and parts of Somalia. 30 million members. They are about 34.49% of the population in Ethiopia. Their native language is Oromo (like Tigre have Tigrigna, Gurage have Guragina etc)… which is part of the Cushitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family.

In other words, Oromo has been migrated to several countries in Africa, Asia, America and in the whole world like the rest of the other Ethinic group of ETHIOPIA. So Oromo is one of the ethnic group in Ethiopia. The whole world knows Ethiopia and it has been known on the World Map as Ethiopia not Oromia. Mr. Oumar, Yes I am fond of the name Ethiopia. You dont even know what it means. Whatever you say that It is a Greek word given to Africa . Its meaning is burned face, primitive, uncivilized, backward, people with no history or culture is 100% wrong. Please go back and take your History 101.

    Obbo Oumar,
to be honest i did not have interest to answer your statements. The reason I’ve been posting comments on this page was with the hope that we can understand each other. Your statements clearly manifest that you have not really understood what I wrote. i am sorry to say this but you are just scribbling intoxicated with political fanaticism and ethnocentric sentiments. Please, go back and read what I wrote, I never said I was against a nation called Oromia. Understand the crux of the matter in my comment. Almost all of your statements are far from the truth, I believe you yourself also know that, if you are living within Ethiopia. Just because of some ethnocentric political fanatic people we cant generalize for the entire population.

Some people try to give historical references that are partially or completely groundless, destorted by politicians. Anyway, whatever the past history is, only the present is most important. If we focus on the present and not on the 18th century we will not bothered ourselves with the past series of events.

It is disappointing to see some of the emotionally written comments from all sides. We need to subdue our emotion and be rational. I know it is hard but lets try.

    Thanks

    Hi Tazabi,
Who is fanatic? You or me? You are the the one who is saying Ethiopia or death! You are the one who is forcing your culture and language on the Oromo people. You are the one who is trying to load us with your values or way of life. Are we forcing or persuading you to practice Oromo culture? Absoluteley no. What, then, is wrong claiming what is rightfully our own. Tha is healthy and positive. In fact, you are very radical.

Tazabi, you said, the past is not important and let us focus on the future. There is something you misunderstood: Yesterday/ the past is the mother of today. We cannot think of today without the past. Today is based on yesterday, and they are inseparable. Today will be the mother of tomorrow.

Tazabi, the past, the present and the future are interdependent, and they are equally important. Life without past, present and future has no meaning-life has no taste- no flavore. What happened in the past really matters.

Tazabi, you are like a horse pulling a cart only looking forward.

This is to all the Habesha people that can’t seem to get it in their heads that the idea of Ethiopian pride and identity will always be foreign concepts to us, the great Oromo people. Unlike the religions that we have embraced, there is nothing ties us to this country, forced upon us a hundred years ago.

What surprises me is this movement of backward-minded Amharas who think that the idea of Ethiopia is sacrosanct and holy…..as if Solomon ordered Menelik (his legendary and imaginary son) that settling in Ethiopia and building a country is a holy commandent. I think Oromos separating from this union they were never a party of is actually in the interest of the Amharas and Tigrays. The fact is this: Oromos still remember the crimes committed against them, from the incpetion of the state to today. Be it Menelik, Iyasu or Haile Selassie, we have no attachment to these merciless murderers, and the horrors committed against is still fresh in our minds – be it the old generation or young generation of today. On the contrary, if the Amharas and Tigrays continue to pursue this campaign of instilling Ethiopian pride, we are going to just demand what every democratically-ruled country should be given: the rule of the people (who are by far mostly Oromo). The day will come when Oromos will rise out of their dormant state and rule Ethiopia, to the detriment of all Amaharas and Tigrays. Their is no love loss b/w us(regardless of the alleged inter-ethnic ties caused by marriage) and so we might just see both these Semitic peoples suffer a disgraceful fall from their undeserved status as the bourgeois class of Ethiopia when the Oromos rise up. Either way, the Oromos will take things to their own hands because no-one will allow him/herself to live a life of oppression. I personally prefer this….the thought of self-righteous Habehsa cringing at the thought of them being held accountable when control of Ethiopia is no longer in their hands. So you Habeshas…..be careful what you wish for!
