By Hashim Adam, Former President of IOYA
Never saw him in person, but I learned about him as the father of the Oromo people’s struggle for liberation. He dedicated his whole life fighting to free his people from three consecutive regimes, and finally, rested still fighting, still active. At his time, he was the man who against all odds showed the importance of working with others who were fighting for the same cause from different corners. Jaal Jaarraa Abbaa Gadaa had done an extraordinary job that we all are proud of, he witnessed generations of oppression, ups and downs in struggle for justice and freedom. It is a huge lose for the Oromo people, and it is a sad day.
Will the Qubee Generation uphold the cause that so many of our heroes, including Jaal Jaarraa Abbaa Gadaa, dedicated their whole lives for? Will this generation learn from this ICON and never stop fighting for peace and justice?
Abbaa Kaayyoo guddaa
Guyyaan gayee jeennaan gadi teenne gadda
Galatoom jenna dalagaan kee guddaa
Dalagaan kee boonsaa, seenaan kee bareedaa
Qabsaa’aa kutataa isa abdii hin kunne
Osoo aadduu duute takkaa hin hifanne
Nuuf jecha jiruu dhabdee biyya tee-irraa baatee
Nu bilisoomsuuf jecha daggala filattee
Diinaaf abjuu, sabaaf faajjii taate
Takkas hin shakkin galma kaayoo tantee
Ilmaan tee qophii dhaa eeguuf tarree galtee
