Jawar Mohammed’s Commentary on Ethiopia’s Standing on the Failed States Index

Listen to the interview of Jawar S. Mohammed (photo, above) by Solomon Kifle of VOA:

Jawar S. Mohammed, a Washington-DC based independent researcher, was interviewed by Solomon Kifle of the Voice of America (VOA) about Ethiopia’s latest ranking on the Failed States Index and recommendations for the future. Listen to the interview (language: Amharic).

Background:
As it was previously published on Gadaa.com, Ethiopia has ranked 17th on the Foreign Policy/Fund for Peace’s 2010 Failed States Index. For a second year in a row, Ethiopia’s ranking is worse than that of Kim Jung-il’s North Korea. Moreover, Mr. Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, has been named the 9th Worst of the Worst Dictators in the world.

Initiated in 2005, the Failed States Index has been tracking the sinking of Ethiopia into a one-party authoritarian state. From the 30th most failed state in 2005, Ethiopia has deteriorated into the 17th most failed state in the world in 2010. The latest ranking comes on the heels of the fraudulent May 2010 elections, in which the ruling party and its puppets shamelessly claimed to have won all but one seat in the parliament, and as Ethiopia sinks into a closed authoritarian regime.

    Ato Jawar, if he is whole heartedly Oromo, is in the third degree (level) of Oromo political evolution. We like it or not all Oromo individuals and institutions do pass through this evolution process, unlike Dr Negasso Gidaada’s backward evolution move. Here is the Oromo political evolution:

    - first level of the evolution is supporting unitary Abyssinian Empire (AE) as Oromo in Habesha organizations like AEUP, EDP, EPPF, EPRP, G-7 and UDJ are doing (they deny the existence of Oromia and do cry about only Imiye Ethiopia);

    - second level of those acting like OPDO, who do claim to be Oromo but accept and adore Abyssinian rule over the Occupied Oromia (OO);

    - third level of those acting like OFC, who do claim to to be Oromo and demand Oromian Autonomy (OA) at least within Ethiopian UNION. Ato Jawar theoretically belongs here, but practically he is at the second level;

    - fourth of those acting like ULFO and do claim the unconditional Oromian Independence (OI) in a form of an independent Gadaa Repubic;

    - fifth level of those searching to foster the Oromian UNION (OU) planned by AFD, i.e a union of independent nations in the Horn which brings all Oromo in the Horn (in Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenia and Tanzania) together.

    The question to be answered yet is how many of the Oromo individuals and institutions did finsh their evolution process? I know there are some who already have completed their evolution, but tactically make the rhetoric of the lower levels of the evolution. But still there are some who still are convinced to live and move at their lower level of the political evolution! Which one is Ato Jawar? The compelled ones, who do consider the lower levels as tactical goal or the convinced ones, who do accept the lower levels as their strategical goal?

    Mr.Wafitta I found it troubeling where you asined Jawar in your analogy.My friend I found you still kicking the same place where you started or told to stay.In politics as well as in human activities there is some thing called growth and it is the law of dialectics.I am sure you know it.The opposite of it is as you undrestand is known as stagnation.
    What Jawar is advocating is not hate but pulling out of stagnation.If you argue there is no stagnation in OLF tstruggle there is some thing that you know but we don’t.If we are still in the same path we are not realy standing on side of our people but rather pretending that we are.
    Another thing is that like the opinion you posted Jawar did his too.If both of you are Oromoos the best way is post your alternative opinion against his.A young bright young man with vision like Jawar must be incouraged not dicouraged,
    Since I talked about alternative solution to the disaster cetuation our people are under going know let me put it in one sentence.To free our people we can’t do it alone.We need the unity of all the people who are suffering under the tyrannt’s Regime.
